What Drives You?

I was talking to a friend this morning about how easy it is to be distracted by all of the information that’s being pushed at us. When we are distracted—when our focus is drawn to breaking news and global calamities—we can miss what God wants to say to us in this time.

If we’re looking at the news headlines, and then only praying about what we’ve read, then we’re allowing the world to drive our prayer life and our relationship time with God.

Instead, I encourage you to step away from the headlines and the news that bombards you with its negativity and fear every day. Go into your prayer time asking God to lead you to the scriptures that you can use as a basis for your prayer. Ask God to prompt you by His Spirit so you pray about the things that you should be praying about at that time.

If we allow the world to drive our prayer time—part of our personal relationship time with God—then we are missing the tender and empowering fellowship that occurs when we talk to God with no agenda and no shields. Our desire should be that we want to spend time with Him and to learn to see things the way He sees them.
